Decarbonization: reducing carbon footprint for a sustainable future

The decarbonation is an essential step on the road to carbon neutrality and a greener economy. Faced with this challenge, companies must adapt. Orak is committed to advancing this environmental necessity.

Understanding decarbonation

The decarbonation refers to techniques and measures that reduce carbon emissions. The aim is to achieve carbon neutrality and reduce the impact of business on climate change. The aim is to move towards a more environmentally-friendly economy.

The decarbonization challenges in France are as follows:

  • Meet the expectations of consumers and investors who want to focus on eco-responsible products.
  • Ensure energy security by diversifying energy production sources, in particular with a strategy to develop renewable energies.
  • Respect political commitments and comply with international environmental standards.

The importance of decarbonization in various sectors

This approach must be implemented in companies according to their sector of activity:

  • In the CONSTRUCTION, decarbonization is based on renovation, the gradual phasing out of fossil fuels, improved energy efficiency, sobriety and new standards for new buildings.
  • For theagriculturethe aim is to reduce methane, nitrous oxide and CO2 emissions.
  • In the transportationit is essential to implement mobility plans, switch to low-carbon vehicles and carry out carbon audits.
  • The industry must meet a number of requirements, including a 55% reduction in greenhouse gases by 2030, followed by carbon neutrality by 2050.

Decarbonation techniques

There are various techniques for reducing carbon footprints :

  • The CO2 sequestration is a solution for storing carbon emissions outside the atmosphere. It is achieved naturally through photosynthesis or the dissolution of atmospheric carbon in the oceans.
  • Visit renewable energies are essential for producing electricity and heating.
  • L'nergy efficiency means improving the performance of appliances and installations, and therefore consuming less.

Decarbonation in the building materials sector

The construction industry must comply with the RE2020. This environmental regulation applies to new buildings and is based on the following principles:

  • Improving energy performance and reducing building consumption. It focuses in particular on insulation performance and heating appliances.
  • Reduce harmful emissions and waste, and extend the service life of building fixtures and fittings throughout the building's lifecycle;
  • Improved building comfort, especially in cold and hot weather.

There are solutions for decarbonizing this sector, including the use of low-carbon concrete and wood. The reuse and recycling of materials is also a priority.

Carpet decarbonation: a special case

At Orak, our commitment to eco-responsibility translates into a specific specific analysis of the carpet's carbon footprint and strategies to reduce its impact.

  • Use of carpet tiles with a high recycled content for the underlay and polyamide yarn;
  • Choose low-emission carpets by reducing the amount of CO2 produced per m2 with committed brands such as Milliken, Interface ;
  • Environmentally-friendly manufacturing processes: some French manufacturers are reorganizing their industrial production to protect the planet, for example Balsan.

In addition carpet maintenance is central to the process of decarbonizing building materials. Regular carpet maintenance extends carpet life, which is fully in line with RE2020.

In addition, Orak offers options for and recovery options for carpet tiles. Prior to removal of your carpetbefore your carpet is removed, we carry out an inventory to determine its condition. Eligible carpet tiles can then be reused on another customer site. Carpet tiles in poor condition can be recycled.

In concrete terms, Orak ensures more than 40% of the carpet tiles reused on the surfaces we handle. This savessaves 8 tonnes of CO2 per 1,000 m2.

To conclude on decarbonization

The decarbonation is an essential process for preserving the environment. For a greener, more sustainable future, it must be implemented without delay in all areas of activity. Building materials, and carpet in particular, have an important role to play in this process. Orak makes a commitment by choosing brands that reduce their environmental impact, and by ensuring the maintenance, reuse and recycling of carpet tiles.
